The Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum and the Department of Art at Cal State San Bernardino, in conjunction with the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts, will host a 92nd Birthday Party honoring world renowned master craftsman and woodworker Sam Maloof. The birthday party will not only offer guests an exclusive preview of the Maloof exhibit at the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum but also will provide an unprecedented opportunity to attend the first-ever auction of the Sam Maloof 92nd Birthday Edition Rocking Chair.

Proceeds from this event will help:

  • Support the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts
  • Fund a Sam Maloof Scholarship for Art Students at Cal State San Bernardino
  • Support an acquisition fund for Ceramics at the Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum

The Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum, in partnership with the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts, presents an exhibition celebrating the life and works of Sam Maloof, master woodworker. With close to 30 pieces of Maloof furniture, the exhibition showcases chairs, settees, cabinets, tables and music stands with supporting photographs, models, patterns, drawings and an instructional area dedicated to the fascinating process of making a chair. A program of educational events, including art history lectures, gallery walks and a woodworking symposium, are also scheduled to run throughout the exhibition.

There will be OPEN HOUSE at the historic residence. No docent-led tours and no reservations on this day.

This exhibit displays works of distinguished fiber artist, Kay Sekimachi and internationally know wood turner, Bob Stocksdale. Sekimachi and Stocksdale, married artists, supported one another's work through their lives together until Bob's death in 2003. Sekimachi, now in her 80s, helped locate and procure work from collectors to represent a survey of she and her husband's life work. The exhibit includes more than 80 pieces of the artists' work. An illustrated catalogue with curatorial essays and a checklist accompanies the show.

EXHIBITION/LECTURE/BOOK-SIGNING

The Jacobs Center at the Maloof Foundation, in conjunction with the del Mano Gallery, will present a small one-day exhibition of the works of Philip and Matt Moulthrop, including other wood-turned pieces from the Maloof collection. Matt and Philip will give a Powerpoint demo showing their techniques in creating their pieces and Kevin Wallace will lead a discussion with Philip and Matt as well as take questions from the audience. All three will sign their new book.
