Join fiber artist Charlotte McKenzie for a hands-on exploration of Nuno felting, a delicate and visually stunning textile technique that blends tradition with contemporary design.

Wet felting is an ancient fiber art that creates fabric by matting and compressing wool fibers using water, soap, and friction. In this workshop, you will combine this time-honored process with the luxury of silk to create a single, unified textile known as Nuno felting.

With Charlotte’s guidance, you will learn how fine wool fibers migrate into silk gauze, bonding the materials together to form a lightweight, flowing, and durable fabric. Throughout the session, you will explore color, texture, and composition while creating a piece that reflects your personal style.

By the end of the workshop, you will leave with your own Nuno felted silk summer scarf, a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art, along with the skills and confidence to continue exploring this beautiful craft.

All materials are included. No experience necessary.

Please bring a sack lunch.

Instructors Bio

Charlotte McKenzie is a self-taught fiber artist based in Riverside, California. Like many, she didn’t initially see herself as an artist. Her creative practice began simply—teaching art as a room mom and filling time while waiting for her sons at their activities. Alongside her artistic work, Charlotte is a Realtor with The Ransom-McKenzie Team, where she brings a unique perspective to “artistic living” in Riverside.

Charlotte’s path shifted when she discovered the world of wool and textiles. What began as a casual interest in knitting quickly grew into a deep passion for felting. Through her participation in the 52 Project at the Riverside Art Museum, she came to understand that art is not reserved for galleries—it is a form of expression open to everyone.

Her work is known for its vibrant use of color and includes felted scarves, vessels, and wall hangings. Charlotte brings a practical, playful, and welcoming approach to her teaching, encouraging students to explore creativity through hands-on making.

Join Charlotte in discovering the tactile beauty of felting as you create your own nuno felted silk summer scarf and uncover your own creative voice.
