The humble tea bag, once dried and emptied, becomes the foundation for a small but precious work of art. In this workshop, each tea bag is transformed through collage using hand-painted papers and fabrics, then unified with free-motion machine sewing and hand stitching. Individually, the tea bags are intimate and expressive. Together, they come together as a richly textured and wondrous art quilt.
Participants may work with realistic or abstract shapes, cutting, collaging, and stitching their designs directly onto the tea bags. The finished tea bags are then arranged into a final composition on a fabric substrate, enhanced with a variety of textured fabrics and trims to create depth and visual interest.
Kits are available and include prepared tea bags, hand-painted papers, background fabrics, and additional materials. This workshop is an invitation to slow down, explore texture and stitch, and discover how small elements can come together to create something truly special.
All materials are provided.
Please bring a sack lunch.
Artist Biography

Libby Williamson is a mixed media fiber artist and teacher who approaches fabric, paper, paint, and thread as tools for drawing and exploration. Using her sewing machine like a sketchbook, she builds layered, expressive surfaces through loose stitching and dense handwork, embracing imperfection and intuitive mark making as part of a deeply process driven practice.
Raised among fabric scraps, paint, and glue, Libby trained in traditional needle arts and printmaking before finding her creative freedom in mixed media. Reclaimed materials such as hardware cloth, zippers, rope, and measuring tapes are combined with fragile elements like tea bags and rice paper, resulting in work that is bold, textured, and unexpected. A joyful and generous teacher, Libby brings that same spirit to the classroom, offering relaxed, technique rich workshops grounded in curiosity, experimentation, and the beauty of the handmade.
